An eternal fabric in hundred contemporary voices.
Can you make you voice heard with the oldest fabric on Earth? Is it possible to speak in the language of today with the artisanal linen from Dutch soil? And what happens, when hundred friends are invited to answer these questions with a free interpretation, visualizing their personal rituals, love for working with the hands, and their own stories.
In order to research this in a contemporary form – local, artisanal and small scale – designer Nannet van der Kleijn has invited around 500 friends and acquaintances from diverse backgrounds and talents to contribute on these ideas. In a hand written letter which she sent this spring to fashion designers, artists and designers, but also to an account, and a pilot, she asked them to bring to life in their own ‘language’ an identical piece of A4 Twents linen.
The surprising rich illustrations that ensued from it, ‘a celebration of art – reflection in time’, is on display for a 4 day exhibition, starting Thursday, at Bradwolff Projects in Amsterdam. You can expect a surprising anthology of creativity in textile, poetry and visual art. Nannet is present in the space all four days and looks forward to seeing you there.
