For her exhibition Topography of Transition, painter and draughtswoman Barbara Rink is creating an installation in which the dome space of BRADWOLFF PROJECTS is transformed into a temple of color, form, and movement. It is a universal blueprint underlying ancient rituals of various indigenous peoples, including the West African and North American First Nations. Rink encountered it ten years ago and was deeply impressed. The palpable energy and beauty of these temporary ceremonial spaces inspired her to translate lasting memories into a personal visual language. For Rink, art is a means to explore the relationship between contemporary man and his environment.
Working method
Rink is interested in the various steps within the work process, particularly the moment where everything converges. At this point, the two-dimensional plane changes into the three-dimensional, colors merge, and material and form relate to each other in such a way that the physical space transforms into one grand visual interplay. The transformation process plays a key role and becomes part of the entire installation, which continues to develop until everything falls into place and an ultimate balance is achieved in the relationship between the installation and the environment. Topography of Transition transforms the project space of BRADWOLFF PROJECTS in an investigative and process-oriented manner into a completely sacred environment.
Barbara Rink [Huizen, 1978] studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Over the past ten years, she has participated in numerous exhibitions and residencies at home and abroad, including at the Soledad Senlle Art Foundation, the Santa Fe Art Institute, and the Consortium Medisch centrum Haaglanden. She integrated her training as a Life Coach and Family Constellations Trainer into various social art projects, workshops, and performances.
The exhibition Topography of Transition is made possible in part thanks to a contribution from the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts in the development budget category.
