BP is reopening! We look forward to welcoming you back with the exhibition Yes No by Urs Moore and Marc Raven.
Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus, our reality looks different. The impact of this invisible virus forces us to reflect on our current existence and the assumptions that come with it. Our thinking, moving, and acting are being reshaped. After three months of quarantine, doors to exhibitions are gradually opening again. This is also the case at Bradwolff Projects, where Urs Moore and Marc Raven have joined forces to create the intimate and philosophical exhibition Yes No.
In the run-up to a larger festival, This storm will pass, organized by Bradwolff Projects in September 2020, a quest emerged for the power of reflection, translating the world around us into art. This quest can be seen as a starting point in the work of Moore and Raven. As part of their shared way of reflecting on what they create, they have worked on an exhibition that focuses on interpreting the ever-changing reality around us. The title of the exhibition, Yes No, stems from making choices regarding what is and is not possible, both in art and in the world around us.
Both Moore and Raven wonder how the experience of their work is intertwined with its creation. In their process-oriented work, they follow a circuitous path to investigating the content of their work. By allowing their work to come into being through an indirect mode of reflection, both physical and poetic layers emerge within the works. Moore and Raven met in a philosophical dialogue in which their works raise questions about their positions in the world around them.
Urs Moore (DE/USA, 1985) is a philosophically inclined painter who creates works driven by a desire for meaning. Anything can be an ingredient in his work and the form follows the idea; at the same time, he grounds his choice of material in art history. Drawing from painting, he draws on a curatorial ambition to transform paintings into narrative objects in space.
Marc Raven’s (NL, 1968) work possesses an almost magical energy that sensitively approaches the viability of the materials used. From a desire to gain a grip on his work process, new dilemmas constantly arise. With an inquisitive gaze, he seeks the autonomy within the painterly objects he works on.
Bradwolff Projects is participating in UNLOCKED / RECONNECTED , an initiative that connects some two hundred ‘houses for art’ throughout the Netherlands: museums, cultural institutions, galleries, artist initiatives, and corporate collections. The starting point is the idea of solidarity, the desire to collectively reflect on what ‘home’ is. The initiative underscores the importance of art and culture during this global crisis. Visitors gain access to the website via a QR code on their phones, where they can find more information about the selected work, all participating locations, and their artworks. Unlocked/Reconnected is an initiative of the galleries Dürst Britt & Mavhew – The Hague and tegenboschvanvreden – Amsterdam.
